All-Ireland Finals in the Park
The All-Ireland Hurling and Gaelic Football finals took place this month (September) and they were a real joy to watch. For the uninitiated, hurling is a game similar to hockey, in that it is played with a small ball and a curved wooden stick while Gaelic Football can be described as a mixture of soccer and rugby, although it predates both of those games. In the Gaelic Football final, Kerry ran away with a decisive victory over Cork, while in the hurling final Kilkenny proved to be too much for a still-developing Limerick side. With construction completed at Croke Park, the home of GAA and venue for the finals, the stadium now has a capacity of over 80,000 and is one of the most prominent features on Dublin's northside cityscape. Croke Park has seen a real transformation in recent years. The new GAA Museum is fast becoming a must-see attraction for visitors to Dublin and is a living history of the country's most important sporting organisation. As a venue, it has a number of meeting rooms and dining areas, and The Cusack Suite is welcome addition that can seat up to 500 for dinner. Although not available on a separate basis, it is possible to hire The Cusack Suite in conjunction with attendance of a group at a Leinster GAA game.
